I'm impressed by the author or editor of the piece mentioned in my initial blog post. Within minutes of posting my comment, they had corrected the article. It ran in (at least) the Chicago Tribune and the L.A. Times. Good journalism!

A worthwhile product is not only a revenue source for a company -- it can help brand an entire company through it's beauty or effectiveness. When the market embraces a product because it just looks right, feels right, and works right, that's generally due in large part to effective product management. A good outcome of effective product management is as much about what stays out of the product as what goes into it. Picasso's ideas on art also translate well to products: "Art is the elimination of the unnecessary.... Every act of creation is first an act of destruction."
Getting from "concept to product" always means facing many challenges. Imagine the challenges in building the Apple iPhone. But nothing compares to the rewards of seeing a beautiful product perform as intended.
